Human Migration

Our program on Society and Migration addresses pressing global issues of rising mobility, which is creating new forms of opportunities as well as vulnerabilities for human society. Our research focuses on, but is not limited to, the critical questions of:
  • how is migration shaping social and economic changes, including intersecting issues of poverty, food insecurity, gender and caste/ethnicity;
  • what are the key sites of exploitation, vulnerabilities and precarity linked to human mobility;
  • how does human mobility remake natural environments/landscapes, and influence the adaptive capacity of mountain communities in the context of global environmental change.
This program generates novel understandings and transformative policy insights about human mobilities and its interconnections with society and nature.
