Degradation of Environment

Ecosystems provide various ecosystem services to support human well-being, and human actions affect biodiversity and ecosystem function. Our research increases our understanding of the linkages between ecosystems and humans. It does so by exploring and quantifying ecosystem services provisioned by nature, and by measuring the impacts of human actions on biodiversity. Our research also documents changes in our ecosystems and biodiversity over different temporal and spatial scales. Through mobilizing local communities and influencing policy-decisions, this program supports sustainable natural resource management. Our research fellows have extensively worked on changes in forests and rangelands, ecology and ethnobioloy of fungi, lichens, and wildlife.
